Interlibrary Loan

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you with Interlibrary Loan

  • When researching through WorldCat and WorldCat Local, ILL request forms will fill out automatically making this process very quick:
  • See how to manually fill out a request from a citation "How to Request..."
  • When researching through these Databases (searchable through Carmichael's A-Z List of Databases), request forms will not automatically populate:

   ACS Publications
   Book Collection:Non Fiction
   Chronicle of Higher Education
   ERIC
   Gale Virtual Reference Library
JSTOR (Arts & Sciences Collection 1)
   MathSciNet
   Medline
   Mental Measurements Yearbook
   MLA EBSCO
Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Online
   Oxford Reference Online Premium
   PsycArticles
  Twayne Authors Series
   Ulrich's Periodicals Directory
   World Shakespeare Bibliography

  • Dissertation or thesis: The trick here is that many times these are only held at one institution, where the PHD was earned.  Sometimes libraries lend these, but often they do not.  You should always try ILL first because it doesn't hurt to try.  If we cannot get the dissertation for you, you may want to consider purchasing it.
