Sound Lab

Welcome!

The Sound Lab is a space that offers an Apple workstation that can be connected to the wall mounted screen for a student to record themselves practicing a speech or conducting a video interview. There is a podium available for practicing speeches. A folding half round table that's perfect for doing a two person interview. NOTE: This studio is not for recording loud projects. So no band practice or loud music. Remember you're still in a library so please be mindful of your surroundings. The Sound Lab is now available for one hour visits scheduled with the DML manager, Michael Price and he can be reached at mprice3@montevallo.edu

If space is available for the corresponding next hour you may book it with Mike Price or the DML Student Assistant on duty.

The Sound Lab has sound dampening tiles to help create a quiet space for conducting interviews or practicing a speech or recording voice over content for a variety of projects.

You can checkout a tripod, video camera, FLIP camera or DVR (digital voice recorder) from the circulation desk to do any recording. All library devices are compatible with the editing devices in the Sound Lab.

The Sound Lab availability will be during the following hours:

  • 9AM to 10PM Monday, Wednesday
  • 9AM to 2PM and 5PM-10PM Tuesday and Thursday
  • 9AM to 4PM Friday
  • 3PM to 10PM Sunday

The lab will be locked at 11PM. Allowing for the Student Assistant to prepare the lab for closing duties.

Depending on the size of files you create you are encouraged to bring a flash drive or use Google Drive or Dropbox for file sharing your projects to students and faculty.

Sound Lab is inventoried after every visit and any missing equipment will be charged to the student who set up the appointment for replacement.

The Sound Lab is not a study room. It's to be used for the above-mentioned outline. No more than 4 people in the lab during a scheduled visit due to fire and safety standards.

Mike Price is available during his shift to assist with questions. Any questions during the evening usage of the lab will need to be followed up the next day during Mike’s Office Hours.
