Disability Support Services

The University of Montevallo is committed to making its programs, services, and activities accessible for all persons with disabilities. The following information is provided so that concerns or accommodation requests may be promptly addressed by the appropriate officials. The University seeks full compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. Carmichael Library works with the Office of Disability Support Services to meet the information needs of all UM students, faculty, and staff regardless of their disability status.

 

Examples of Library Accommodations

Examples of efforts and accommodations made for persons with disabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing parking areas, pathways, and entrances to the library that are wheelchair-accessible and clearly identified
  • Using assistive computer technology such as screen readers for persons with visual impairment
  • Making reference and circulation services available by phone and email
  • Providing physical assistance, such as moving furniture and pulling items from the stacks
  • Training staff members to be aware of issues related to communicating with patrons of different races and ethnicities, ages, and abilities
