Fast Answers! EDGAR Forms

SEC Filings
The Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires publicly held companies to file discloser documents on a regular basis.  The Form 10-K , Form 10-Q and Form 8-K and other documents are available to the public on the SEC site.

Form 10-K filings

  • Audited
  • Annual
  • Only public companies required to file

Form 10-K provides a comprehensive overview of a company's business and financial condition and includes audited financial statements.  The 10-K is an audited annual form distinct from a company's annual report to shareholders.
To find a particular company's  10-K form search the EDGAR database.

Form 10-Q

  • Unaudited
  • Quarterly reports due on the first three fiscal quarters
  • Only public companies required to file

The Form 10-Q includes unaudited financial statements and provides a continuing view of the company's financial position during the year. The report must be filed for each of the first three fiscal quarters of the company's fiscal year. Use the EDGAR database to locate a company's Form 10-Q.

Form 8-K

Form 8-K is the “current report” companies must file with the SEC to announce major events that shareholders should know about.  You can find a company's Form 8-K on the EDGAR database.
